It's Cold, Bundle up!!!

It's only the beginning of Second Semester and things are moving fast past, except the weather of course. When it comes to packing clothes for Durham be sure to pack winter, fall, and spring clothes for second semester. The weather constantly changes and one day it will be cold the next semi-warm. You NEVER know!! Also pack rain boots because they are very necessary!! It rains almost every week or sometimes more than once a week. Durham has what we like to call strange weather. For example, today we had weather in the low 40's and the wind was blowing, but yesterday we had 60's weather and the sun was shining. To us that is good weather, maybe a nice jacket and some flats (shoes). Be sure to pack your snow boots, gloves, scarves, and your umbrella!!

2011 A New Semester

Well , we're back to school with a new semester and new classes. This semester is very different and it has not quite hit me that we are back already. It was an excitement for me to get back to what I love doing, studying!! Of course with the new semester comes, the new students, and the beginning of making friends...AGAIN! You have new friends and you have old ones. It never gets boring! This semester I am juggling:
  • Summer Session II
  • Paying everything ON TIME
  • Staying fit
  • Becoming more "involved"
  • Staying focused
It's hard to come back buckle down when all you want to do is chill with friends, go out, and have a good time. You just have to remember that school comes first!! You did not come here on scholarships or your parents money to waste it all and end up getting dropped or kicked out. Make it worth your while and thing of ways that you know will help you stay on TASK!!

Exam Week

Things are getting SERIOUS! Classes are over and exam week has began. I never thought the semester would go by this fast! I am excited because that means I can go home soon! Super excited to see the family! Challenges right about now is making sure I have all of my community service hours and that I have studied as much as needed. You don't want to get to exam day and not be prepared. Everyone is leaving everyday and it's kind of lonely if you have nothing to do in your dorm. I stay in Richmond Residence Hall so the walk to see friends that are still on campus is sometimes less taken. Being creative makes everything more amusing.
When we pack up our things to go home we have to remember to:
  • Clean up
  • Pack up
  • Lock the things you leave in the closet
  • Unplug all cords
And of course be prepared for 2011! Having all of your classes in order and everything paid for is very important for next semester. I myself have had an interesting first semester, with so many events and so much work, it's hard to say I was bored.

Moving Forward!

Long time no talk to people! :) Well, let me see here, where do I begin? Well it's almost time for Thanksgiving break. The topic for this post is definitely community service hours!!! Community service hours are SO important!!!! Without them you cannot move on to your next semester. You must have 15 hours per semester. The thing is it is soooooooo easy to do. Becoming a First-Year Blogger (which is what I do) you get community service hours. Other ways to get community service hours are:
  • Going to 10:40 Breaks
  • Giving Blood
  • Getting involved in whatever other opportunities NCCU offers.
Normally they will e-mail you, your instructor will inform you on it, or you will here it from word of mouth. The other important thing to remember is that even when you complete 15 hours DON'T STOP!!!! You can get as many as you can so when the next semester comes along you won't have to worry about not having enough.

From Dusk til Dawn!

Busy Busy Busy!!!

October was a busy month and now it is over. I have so much to inform you on! I believe I elaborated only a little about what I have been up to, but I was recently in Coronation. Coronation is for The "Miss" of a college. My part in it was dancing and appearing in a nice, elegant gown of which we had to choose from three colors and we participated in it. I won Miss Richmond Hall (one of the Residence halls on campus). In doing so all the Mr and Misses of each organization and residence halls were allowed to participate in Coronation, which meant
  • 3 and 1 1/2 hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays takin from your LIFE!!!
  • Prioritizing and getting homework out of the way during the day
  • bringing heels to dance in
  • bracing yourself for any changes that choreographer might throw at you
If you're good at dancing it will be no problem! Coronation was awesome and yes I have pictures! Homecoming was this past week as well. I thought it was a dream when someone told me that Homecoming was the busiest week ever, but it was no dream nor a nightmare -if you have all your homework and studying out of the way! It was awesome. I wish I had gone to all of the functions, but I did not have the money to do so.

Stressful Weeks !

Never overwhelm yourself with too much!

Well it has been a hectic few weeks. I am currently balancing mid-term exams, Coronation Practice (for Homecoming), and Portfolios. When I say busy I mean busy!!!!!
Here are some tips:
  • Organize your schedule to where you have the most important things up first
  • If you want to join organizations and you find you do not have enough time it will be alright, there is always next year
  • As long as you are involved in at least two organizations you will never be bored
  • Try not to miss class and when you do be sure to get missed work by emailing your professor, instructor, or doctor
Next blog will be on the events of Homecoming!
